Fashion influences the shapes, styles and curves I use in my furniture. The cut of a neckline, the shape of a heel on a shoe, the softness of a cashmere sweater, are but a few things that inspire me. I like simple lines with appropriate adornment, like the little black dress with pearls. I think of furniture the way clothes appeal to me - unique, classic, and fun.
I make furniture – decorative, yet functional furniture. I’m attracted to upholstery, what defines it, and the boundaries that can be pushed. In my current work, I am using thousands of hand-strung beads, combined with the richness of shaped mahogany. Both groups implore a very tactile and sensuous quality. The negative spaces and shapes that are created by the fabric or beads hold special interest for me, as they always reveal something unique. Some pieces reveal more of what is underneath, while others leave you guessing and wondering - just like an irresistible, well-designed cocktail dress would.
